Today I want to introduce something very personal: my new album, Semper Amare.
The title is Latin and translates roughly to “Always Love.” It felt like the right name for this collection because the album brings together two sides of my recent musical work: the songs from my Always EP and a collection of acoustic demos recorded at home.
Rather than being created as a traditional album from beginning to end, Semper Amare grew naturally out of the music I had already been making.
It became a way of bringing those different recordings together into one body of work.
A continuation of Always
The first part of Semper Amare comes from my Always EP.
Those songs represent a particular period of my songwriting and production, with the atmosphere, emotions and ideas that shaped that project.
Revisiting the material and placing it alongside the acoustic recordings gave me the opportunity to look at those songs from another perspective.
The polished recordings and the stripped-down demos may sound very different, but they come from the same place: the songwriting.
That is something I always try to keep at the center of my music.
Recorded at home
The other side of Semper Amare is much more intimate.
Some of these songs began as acoustic demos recorded at home.
There is something special about making a recording in the same environment where an idea first appears.
There is no large studio.
No elaborate production team.
No pressure to make everything perfect immediately.
There is simply a musician, an instrument, a microphone, and a song.
Those recordings capture a different kind of energy.
They preserve some of the imperfections and spontaneity that can disappear once a song goes through a full production process.
Sometimes that intimacy is exactly what a song needs.
Imperfection can be part of the music
As an audio engineer, I naturally care about production, recording quality, mixing and all the technical details that go into a finished track.
But being an artist has taught me another lesson: technical perfection isn’t always the same thing as emotional perfection.
A completely polished production can be impressive, but a simple acoustic recording can sometimes communicate something that a larger production cannot.
A breath.
A finger moving across the strings.
A voice that isn’t completely polished.
A little room ambience.
A performance that feels immediate.
Those details can remind the listener that there is a person behind the recording.
That is part of what I wanted to preserve with these demos.
From a demo to a finished song
One of my favorite things about songwriting is seeing how a simple idea evolves.
A song can begin with a guitar and a melody.
Then perhaps another part appears.
A lyric changes.
The structure develops.
The arrangement becomes larger.
Production starts to shape the atmosphere.
Eventually, the original idea becomes something that sounds very different from where it started.
But the original emotion is still there.
Semper Amare brings together both stages of that process: the finished songs and the intimate beginnings.
Why Semper Amare?
I chose the name because the idea of “always” has been present throughout this period of my music.
Love can mean many things.
It can mean romantic love.
It can mean longing.
It can mean memory.
It can mean connection.
It can mean holding on to something.
It can mean letting something go.
And sometimes it can simply mean continuing to create despite everything happening around you.
Semper Amare isn’t meant to define one particular kind of love.
It is more about the idea of carrying that feeling forward.
A personal collection
There is something different about a compilation like this.
Because the album brings together recordings created at different times and in different circumstances, it feels almost like a snapshot of a period of my life.
Some songs are more produced.
Some are much more stripped back.
Some sound intimate.
Others have a larger arrangement.
Together, they tell a story.
Not necessarily a perfectly linear story, but a musical one.
Independent music is about freedom
One of the reasons I love working independently is that I can follow an idea wherever it takes me.
I don’t have to decide that every song must fit exactly into one commercial format.
I can make a fully produced track.
Then record an acoustic version of another song in my room.
Then experiment with something completely different.
That freedom is a big part of why I continue making music.
I want the songs to develop naturally.
The beauty of acoustic demos
There’s also something timeless about an acoustic recording.
Remove the layers.
Remove the effects.
Remove the production tricks.
You are left with the essential elements: voice, instrument, melody, lyrics and emotion.
If those elements work, the song can survive almost any arrangement.
That is one of the best tests of songwriting.
A good song should be able to exist in its simplest form.
The acoustic demos on Semper Amare are part of that idea.
More music is already coming
Semper Amare is not the end of this period of songwriting.
I’m continuing to write and record new material.
I have already been working toward other projects, and I plan to keep making songs until I feel that those projects are complete.
For me, songwriting isn’t something that stops when an album is released.
It keeps moving.
One song leads to another.
One idea becomes another.
A finished project creates space for the next one.
That’s part of what makes creating music so exciting.

It’s personal.
It’s independent.
And it’s made with love.
